We always said this would be the year of the family vacation. Our last family vacation was when we went to Oregon almost four years earlier. That being said, I never imagined we would have such a big vacation. Guess that’s what happens when you make up for lost time.
So where did we go? Well we were crazy enough to take the whole family to Europe. Because how stressful can it be traveling to Europe with three young boys, flying separately no less?!
My good friend/sort of host brother was getting married and it was the perfect excuse to go. He came for our wedding and has been for visits shortly after each of our boys was born. He is family in every sense of the word and I didn’t want to miss the wedding. It took some time to work out logistics but we made it work.
I flew with Sean and Ewan out of Charlotte. Jack and Josh drove to Washington DC and flew out of Dulles. We all met in Zurich, Switzerland. Our flights landed within 15 minutes of each other.
The first day was rough, we drove from Zurich to Salzburg, Austria. It was about a six hour drive and between jetlag, the time difference and little sleep the boys were so incredibly cranky and tired. It wasn’t pretty, but we survived.
In Salzburg we met my friend Karin and hung out with her for a couple days. We had great times visiting castles, fortresses, walking around the city, eating, drinking… It was so fun to watch the boys take in a new country and culture for the first time.
Happy Mother’s Day to my mom, the best ever! Thanks for always being there for me, both as a child and as an adult. She is the best Oma ever. Who else can handle watching three energetic boys?! They craft together so it was only appropriate they make her cards for this special day, no ordinary Hallmark card would do for Oma. The cards and gift will be hand delivered when she comes later this month for Sean’s preschool graduation.
I know, I say it every post. I’ll catch up and stay up to date. There simply aren’t enough hours in the day.
Oma and Opa came for a visit back in January. Now that they don’t live in town they still try to see us once a month. The boys had fun playing with Opa!
Then in February we went to Tennessee. The boys were thrilled to see a little snow. They went sledding and got cold quickly. Their favorite part of the whole weekend was the roller coaster ride, despite it being cold and Jack being scared riding by himself.
They even braved the hot tub in the cold! Of course they warmed up after that in the jaquzzi. They also enjoyed spending a little time with their Grandma. It was indeed a fun weekend.
To say the boys had fun over their break doesn’t even begin to explain how excited they were! We went to Oma and Opa’s house and Uncle Nick was there too. It had been 3 1/2 years since we last saw Uncle Nick.
The boys had so much fun with their uncle. They played, read, hiked and did nearly everything together. They snuggled on the couch. It all melted my heart to see them have so much fun together. We all wish Uncle Nick lived closer.
Daddy spun the boys before they hunted for Easter eggs.
We went to Oskar Blues a couple times. The boys enjoyed playing with some tree blossoms there. Doesn’t Daddy look handsome?!
